God in Control of Our Home
by The Harianto Family
The incident happened on Sunday, September 4th. We were getting ready to go to church and since the arrival of our second child, there’s almost always a morning chaos at home. We planned to leave at 8:45 AM and before leaving I was heating some vegetable soup dish for breakfast. We were all in a hurry that morning and I just took off without turning the stove off. The drive from our home in New Jersey to the church was about 45 minutes (on a good traffic).
We arrived at church, listened to the Word of God, and even went to get lunch until 3 PM. I just didn’t remember about the vegetable soup on the stove. There’s a bridal shower at 4 so we stayed longer in New York. At some point my baby started to cry and I had to feed him. I always prayed for my baby before giving him food, and while I was praying, God reminded me about the soup on the stove that’s still heating. I immediately asked my husband if he turned the stove off in the morning. He didn’t and I began to panic.
We decided to go home instantly but the traffic was horrible since it’s Labor Day weekend. We couldn’t do anything else; we just prayed in the car ‘Jesus, have mercy on us’. I just kept praising God right there and then. I asked God in my heart why He hadn’t reminded me about the stove in the morning and had waited until 5 PM. Then I remembered the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the book of Daniel. They were put in the furnace so hot but the fire didn’t even burn their hair. My heart was then comforted and I continued to pray.
When we got home, praise the Lord, nothing happened in the kitchen! It’s amazing. I couldn’t say anything; I just cried and praised God. The kitchen wasn’t burnt; there was not even a smoke in the house. My husband noticed the blazing fire on the stove but our God is just awesome. The pot on the stove didn’t even melt or bend; only the veggies got so crispy. From 8:30 in the morning to 7 in the evening; that’s over 10 hours of veggie soup on high heat.
Truly, God is so great, praise the Lord! He’s alive and those who lean on Him will never be forsaken. We just thank Jesus and we hope this testimony will elevate your faith as well. Thank you for reading, Kiany Harianto.
